Three Individuals Enter Pleas in Federal Court

MARTINSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA - Three individuals entered pleas of guilty in United States District Court in Martinsburg on September 17, 2012, before Magistrate Judge David J. Joel.

United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II, announced that:

LEO RAYMOND BRANT, JR., age 65, and VICTORIA L. BRANT, age 47, of Kearneysville, West Virginia, entered pleas of guilty to Tax Evasion. LEO and VICTORIA BRANT pled guilty falsely signing their 2008 tax return, thereby, causing a total tax loss of $114,633. LEO and VICTORIA BRANT, who are free on bond pending sentencing, each face up to 3 years imprisonment and a $100,000 fine. This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Erin K. Reisenweber and investigated by the Internal Revenue Service.

MARK DANIEL HAINES, age 42, of Cumberland, Maryland, entered a plea of guilty Attempted Escape. While housed at the Eastern Regional Jail on the Federal charge of bank robbery, HAINES attempted to escape by digging out a block at the head of his bunk and camouflaging his work. HAINES, who is in custody pending sentencing, faces up to 5 years imprisonment and a $250,000 fine. This was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Paul T. Camilletti and investigated by the United States Marshals Service.
