Assistant United States Attorney
Takes Oath of Office
WHEELING, WEST VIRGINIA — William J. Ihlenfeld, II, United States Attorney for the Northern District of West Virginia, announced the appointment of Jarod J. Douglas to the position of Assistant United States Attorney under the Attorney General’s Honor Program. Douglas was formally administered the oath of office on Monday in United States District Court in Wheeling by Chief Judge John Preston Bailey.
Douglas recently completed a judicial clerkship with Judge Bailey and is a 2009 graduate of the West Virginia University College of Law, where he was a member of the Moot Court Board. He also received his undergraduate degree from WVU while competing for the Mountaineer football team.
“We are fortunate to be able to add someone of Jarod’s caliber to our staff,” said Ihlenfeld. “He is very well-rounded and will be an asset to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in both the criminal division and in the civil division.”
The Attorney General’s Honors Program is the largest federal entry-level attorney hiring program of its kind, and the only vehicle through which the United States Attorney’s Office hires entry-level attorneys. Eligibility is generally limited to graduating law students and recent law school graduates who entered judicial clerkships, graduate law programs, or qualifying legal fellowships within 9 months of law school graduation. Selections are made based on many elements of a candidate’s background including a demonstrated commitment to government service, academic achievement, leadership, law review or moot court experience, legal aid and clinical experience, past employment, and extracurricular activities that relate to the work of Justice and the relevant component.
Douglas resides in Wheeling with his wife.
