DETROIT MAN SENTENCED TO FIVE YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON FOR CRACK COCAINE DISTRIBUTION
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin announced today that a Detroit man was sentenced to five years in federal prison for distributing crack cocaine. Derrick Eugene Randolph, also known as “Pac Man,” 29, of Detroit, previously pleaded guilty in April to conspiracy to distribute 28 grams or more of crack cocaine. Randolph admitted that in April 2006, he came to Huntington from Detroit and became involved in distributing controlled substances that included crack cocaine. Randolph also admitted that he became a member of a drug trafficking organization identifying itself as the “Cash Out Crips.” On May 26, 2006, law enforcement officers with the Cabell County Sheriff’s Department executed a search warrant on a residence shared by the defendant and his associates. Officers seized several items from the residence, including approximately 10 grams of crack cocaine. As a result of that investigation, Randolph pleaded guilty in Cabell County Circuit Court to attempting to commit a felony.
Randolph also admitted that on November 25, 2008, he was present at a Huntington residence when members of the West Virginia State Police executed a search warrant. Officers located and seized several items including approximately 197 grams of crack cocaine, 463 80-milligram oxycodone tablets, marijuana, two handguns and two rifles. As a result of that investigation, Randolph similarly pleaded guilty in Cabell County Circuit Court to attempt to commit a felony.
The defendant further admitted that on May 5, 2009, he provided approximately 1.49 grams of crack cocaine to an associate, who then distributed the crack to a confidential informant cooperating with the Huntington Violent Crimes and Drug Task Force.
The Huntington Violent Crimes and Drug Task Force, the Cabell County Sheriff’s Department and the West Virginia State Police conducted the investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Joshua Hanks handled the prosecution. The sentence was imposed by United States District Judge Robert C. Chambers.
