BECKLEY FEDERAL CORRECTIONS INMATE SENTENCED ON WEAPON POSSESSION CHARGE
CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Beckley inmate Ibrahim Farooq, 27, was sentenced today to one year in prison by United States District Judge Irene C. Berger for possession of a weapon in prison. On August 25, 2010, Farooq was an inmate at the Federal Corrections Institute Beckley, when a staff member searched him and found a six-inch homemade knife, known as a “shank” hidden inside of his clothing.
The Court ordered the defendant’s one year prison sentence be served consecutively to his 23-year sentence on a second degree murder conviction.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons conducted the investigation. Assistant United States Attorney John File handled the prosecution.
