PITTSBURGH MAN SENTENCED TO 8 YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON IN CONNECTION TO FAYETTE COUNTY PHARMACY ROBBERY
CHARLESTON, W.Va. – U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin announced that a Pittsburgh man was sentenced today to eight years in federal prison for conspiracy to commit robbery of a Fayette County, West Virginia pharmacy. Kevin Ian Davis, 31, of Pittsburgh, previously pleaded guilty in August. Davis admitted that on June 19, 2008, he arrived at the New River Family Health Center Pharmacy located near Scarbro, W.Va. Davis further admitted that he intended to rob the pharmacy of prescription pills containing oxycodone and morphine. Davis also admitted that he used a handgun to complete the pharmacy robbery.
Davis’ co-conspirator, Christina Foster, 34, of Montgomery, W.Va., was sentenced in November to two years in federal prison for her role in the scheme. Foster previously pleaded guilty in August to conspiracy to commit an offense against the United States. Foster admitted that on June 19, 2008, she drove co-conspirator Davis to the New River Family Health Center Pharmacy. Foster further admitted that after Davis completed the robbery, she immediately drove him away from the location.
The replacement cost of the prescription drugs stolen from the pharmacy is $2412.34 worth of oxycodone pills and $629.07 worth of morphine pills.
The Court ordered both defendants to make restitution to the pharmacy.
This case was prosecuted as part of an ongoing effort led by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia to combat the illicit sale and misuse of prescription drugs. The U.S. Attorney’s Office, joined by federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, is committed to aggressively pursuing and shutting down illegal pill trafficking, eliminating open air drug markets, and curtailing the spread of opiate painkillers in communities across the Southern District.
The West Virginia State Police conducted the investigation. Assistant United States Attorney John File handled the prosecution. The sentence was imposed by United States District Judge Thomas E. Johnston.
