BECKLEY MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO ILLEGAL FIREARM POSSESSION
BECKLEY, W.Va. – Larry Wayne Gluyas, 44, of Beckley, pleaded guilty today in federal court before United States District Judge Irene C. Berger to being a felon in possession of a firearm. On September, 2, 2011, following a domestic incident, the defendant admitted to law enforcement officers that he had a firearm. Beckley Police Department officers subsequently found a Winchester 20-gauge shotgun inside of the defendant’s residence.
The defendant was prohibited from possessing a firearm by virtue of his 2007 felony conviction in Polk County, Fla. for possession of cocaine.
Gluyas faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine when he is sentenced on June 6, 2012.
The investigation was conducted by the Beckley Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Assistant United States Attorney John File is in charge of the prosecution.
This case is being brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods. Project Safe Neighborhoods is a nationwide commitment to reduce gun crime in the United States by networking existing local programs targeting gun crime.
