CABELL COUNTY MAN SENTENCED FOR ILLEGAL FIREARM POSSESSION
CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Charles McCallister, 56, of Culloden, Cabell County, W.Va., was sentenced today to 36 months probation by United States District Judge John T. Copenhaver, Jr. for being a domestic violence misdemeanant in possession of a firearm. McCallister pleaded guilty in November. On May 12, 2011, a trooper with the West Virginia State Police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle operated by the defendant. During the traffic stop, the trooper observed that there was a shotgun in the defendant’s vehicle. McCallister admitted that he was the owner of the firearm.
McCallister was prohibited from possessing a firearm by virtue of his misdemeanor conviction of domestic battery in 1999 in the Magistrate Court of Putnam County.
This case was investigated by the West Virginia State Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Assistant United States Attorney John File handled the prosecution.
