OHIO MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO FEDERAL DRUG CHARGE
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin announced today that an Ohio man pleaded guilty in federal court to possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine. Danny Merriweather, Jr., 25, of Toledo, OH, admitted that on July 7, 2011, he placed a plastic bag containing crack cocaine in his mouth just as law enforcement agents approached his Huntington residence. Officers were conducting a “knock and talk” residential visit at the time they found the defendant in possession of the crack cocaine. Agents subsequently arrested the defendant and recovered the 13.8 grams of crack cocaine.
Merriweather faces up to 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine when he is sentenced on October 1, 2012 by United States District Judge Robert C. Chambers.
The Drug Enforcement Administration and the Huntington Police Department conducted the investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Joseph F. Adams is in charge of the prosecution.
