HUNTINGTON MAN PLEADS GUILTY IN FEDERAL COURT FOR VIOLATING SEX OFFENDER REGISTRATION LAWS
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin today announced that a Huntington man pleaded guilty for failing to register as a sex offender. Rodney B. Brewer, Jr., 29, admitted to the charge today in federal court.
On August 12, 2008, Brewer was convicted in New Hanover Superior Court in North Carolina of taking indecent liberties with a child. As a result of his felony conviction, Brewer was required to register as a sex offender for 10 years. On November 17, 2008, Brewer registered as a sex offender in the state of North Carolina.
An investigation conducted by the United States Marshals Service in the Southern District of West Virginia revealed that Brewer traveled in interstate commerce to Huntington, West Virginia, where he resided from June 2011 through April 3, 2012. The investigation further revealed that Brewer failed to register as a sex offender as required by law. On April 3, 2012, Brewer was arrested by the United States Marshals Service and admitted to knowing that he was required to register as a sex offender.
Jackson faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine when he is sentenced on October 15, 2012 by United States District Judge Robert C. Chambers.
The United States Marshals Service and the Cabell County Sheriff’s Office conducted the investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Lisa Johnston is in charge of the prosecution.
