LOGAN COUNTY MAN SENTENCED FOR OXYCODONE DISTRIBUTION
CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Jimmy Bryant, 63, of Logan County, W.Va., was sentenced today five years’ probation which includes a six-month term of home confinement by United States District Judge Thomas E. Johnston for conspiracy to distribute oxycodone. Bryant previously pleaded guilty in October. The defendant admitted that on March 2, 2010, he sold six 80-milligram oxycodone pills to a confidential informant working with the U.S. 119 Task Force in exchange for $600. Bryant further admitted that the pill transaction occurred at his Mud Fork Road residence in Verdunville, Logan County.
This case was prosecuted as part of an ongoing effort led by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia to combat the illicit sale and misuse of prescription drugs. The U.S. Attorney’s Office, joined by various federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, remain committed to aggressively pursuing and shutting down illegal pill trafficking, eliminating open air drug markets and curtailing the spread of opiate painkillers in communities across the Southern District.
The U.S. 119 Task Force conducted the investigation. Assistant United States Attorney John Frail handled the prosecution.
