HURRICANE MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO ILLEGAL FIREARM POSSESSION CHARGE
CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Charles McCallister, 57, of Hurricane, West Virginia, pleaded guilty yesterday in federal court before United States District Judge John T. Copenhaver, Jr. to being a domestic violence misdemeanant in possession of a firearm. On May 12, 2011, a trooper with the West Virginia State Police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle operated by the defendant. During the traffic stop, the trooper saw a shotgun in the defendant’s vehicle. McCallister admitted that he was the owner of the firearm. McCallister was prohibited from possessing a firearm because he had been convicted of domestic violence in Putnam County in 1999.
McCallister faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine when he is sentenced on January 26, 2012.
This case was investigated by the West Virginia State Police. Assistant United States Attorney John File is in charge of the prosecution.
