On April 5, 2012, Matthew Antelope, 30 years old, and an enrolled member of the Northern Arapaho Tribe of the Wind River Reservation appeared in federal court after having been indicted on three separate counts – assault resulting in serious bodily injury, assault with a dangerous weapon, namely a knife, and escape from custody. Each assault charge carries a maximum penalty of up to ten years imprisonment and a $250,000.00 fine, the escape charge carries a maximum penalty of up to five years imprisonment and a $250,000.00 fine. Trial has been set for June 8, 2012, in Cheyenne, Wyoming before Judge Clarence A. Brimmer. An indictment is only an accusation. In every criminal case, the accused is presumed to be innocent until proven guilty, and the government always has the burden of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
