Northern Arapaho Man Sentenced for Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury

U.S. Attorney for the District of Wyoming Christopher A. Crofts announced today that on October 30, 2012, Garrett Blackburn, a 20-year-old enrolled Northern Arapaho from the Wind River Indian Reservation, appeared in Federal District Court for sentencing before Chief United States District Judge Nancy D. Freudenthal on a single count of assault resulting in serious bodily injury in violation of 18 U.S.C. ยงยง 113(a)(6) and 1153. The charge carried a maximum penalty of up to ten (10) years imprisonment, a $250,000.00 fine, or both; supervised release of not more than three (3) years; restitution; and a $100.00 special assessment. Blackburn received 16 months of imprisonment to be followed by two years of supervised release and was ordered to pay restitution. The charge stemmed from an assault which occurred on February 5, 2012, on the Wind River Indian Reservation and involved officers from the Wind River Police Department and Agents of the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
