
CHARLOTTE ATTORNEY SENT TO PRISON FOR TAX VIOLATIONS
GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN – David B. Carter of Charlotte, Michigan, was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment for willfully failing to file income tax, U. S. Attorney Donald A. Davis announced today. U.S. District Court Judge Robert Holmes Bell also ordered Carter to pay $191,085 in restitution to the Internal Revenue Service. Carter’s wife, Lisa Carter, was sentenced to a year of court supervision for her willful failure to file income taxes.
David and Lisa Carter each pled guilty on February 4, 2011 to willfully failing to file their 2003 through 2009 federal income tax returns. According to court records, during 2003 through 2009 tax years, David Carter was a self-employed attorney in Grand Ledge, Michigan, who, as part of his practice, prepared tax returns for others and provided tax-related advice. Lisa is a licensed veterinarian who practice under her own and other various names, including Michigan Equine Dental Services. During this time period, they jointly received gross income totaling over $1.2 million, but willfully failed to file federal income tax returns and pay any income tax due.
This case was prosecuted by U.S. Attorney Donald A. Davis and investigated by Special Agents of the IRS Criminal Investigation Division.
