The Deputy Assistant Attorneys General are of equal rank, and the Assistant Attorney General will designate one of them to exercise the powers of Assistant Attorney General in his or her absence.
If a vacancy occurs in the Assistant Attorney General position, one of the deputies will be designated to serve as Acting Assistant Attorney General until a new Assistant Attorney General is nominated by the President and confirmed by the Senate.
