ASSISTANT ATTORNEY GENERAL
EILEEN J. O’CONNOR
Eileen J. O’Connor was the Assistant Attorney General for the Tax Division of the United States Department of Justice
from July 20, 2001, when the Senate confirmed her appointment, until June 29, 2007.
Before her appointment to the Justice Department, Ms. O’Connor had worked in the tax field for nearly 30 years, including
serving as a corporate tax law specialist in the National Office of the Internal Revenue Service and working for more than 20 years
as a national tax consultant with major national accounting firms. She represented hundreds of clients before the
IRS National Office and the Department of Treasury and assisted in the representation of hundreds more at the examination
and appeals levels.
At the time of her appointment, Ms. O’Connor was Distinguished Adjunct Professor at George Mason University Law School and
previously had been an adjunct professor at Georgetown University Law School in its graduate tax law program. She has been a
frequent speaker at business and professional conferences across the country.
Ms. O’Connor received her undergraduate degree from Columbus State University and her law degree from Catholic University.
A CPA and a lawyer, she has been active in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and is a member of the
District of Columbia and Federal Bar Associations. She is a member of the Bars of the United States Supreme Court, the
District of Columbia, and the United States Tax Court.
