The United States Attorneys are the chief federal law enforcement officers in their districts, responsible for federal criminal prosecutions and civil cases involving the United States Government. The Executive Office for United States Attorneys provides support and oversight for the 94 offices across the country.

Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) are responsible for representing the Federal Government in virtually all litigation involving the United States. Most United States Attorneys’ Offices are divided into the following sections:

• Criminal Division
• Civil Division
• Appellate Division
• Financial Litigation Unit
