Richard L. Durbin, Jr., is the Acting United States Attorney for the Western District of Texas, effective December 19, 2014. He has been an Assistant U.S. Attorney since 1983, and has served as the First Assistant U.S. Attorney, Chief of the Criminal Division, Chief of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force, Chief of the Appellate Section, and Chief of the Drug Section. He has been an evaluator and team leader for the Evaluation and Review Staff (EARS), an instructor at the National Advocacy Center, and was a member of the Criminal Chiefs Working Group.

The Western District of Texas includes 68 counties and is comprised of approximately 93,000 square miles. Of all the districts sharing a common border with the Republic of Mexico, the Western District has the longest common border with Mexico, approximately 660 miles.
