Matthew Thompson
University of Oregon

If law school is a pop tart: the U.S. Attorney’s Office is a toaster streudel. The two are similar in composition and style; but in substance, quality, and enjoyment the U.S. Attorney’s Office dominates absolutely.

That limbo feeling of accomplishing nothing but spending too much time doing it that law school gives you is blasted away by the intensely enjoyable and tangible work that you will find at the USAO Boise.

The research and writing you do is immediately rewarded with courtroom application. Knowing that what you are working on shows up in court is the perfect carrot-on-a-stick that will keep you in top gear until the end.

Your courtroom time is spent surrounded by people of impressive professional caliber on all sides. Your accompanying Assistant U.S. Attorney has your back, the court staff is friendly and helpful, the Federal Public Defenders are great to work with, and the Judges are knowledgeable and courteous.

This is the type of job that is easy to get out of bed in the morning for. The USAO Boise presents a series of opportunities for professional and educational development. An externship with this crowd is worth fighting for, I strongly suggest you apply.
