Former US Attorney Thomas L. Kirsch II

Thomas L. Kirsch II is the United States Attorney for the Northern District of Indiana.  He was nominated by Donald J. Trump and confirmed by the Senate with the President signing his commission on October 6, 2017.

 

Mr. Kirsch is a former partner at Winston & Strawn LLP.  At Winston & Strawn, Mr. Kirsch litigated commercial and criminal matters in trial and appellate courts across the United States.  Mr. Kirsch also conducted corporate internal investigations and handled regulatory matters before numerous federal and state agencies.  Before joining Winston & Strawn, Mr. Kirsch served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Northern District of Indiana from 2001-2008, focusing on white collar investigations and prosecutions, including the prosecution of numerous elected and appointed public officials.  Mr. Kirsch led numerous complex high-profile white collar investigations and has prosecuted offenses in numerous areas, including mail and wire fraud, honest services fraud, tax fraud, bank fraud, health care fraud, conspiracy, extortion, money laundering, racketeering, obstruction of justice, perjury, and gangs and narcotics.  In 2006 and 2007, while on detail from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Mr. Kirsch served as Counsel to the Assistant Attorney General at the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Legal Policy in Washington, DC.  Mr. Kirsch assisted in developing legislative and policy proposals in corporate crime, violent crime, and counter-terrorism.  Prior to serving as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, Mr. Kirsch served as a law clerk to the Honorable John D. Tinder in the Southern District of Indiana. 

 

Mr. Kirsch has received numerous local and national awards, including the Department of Justice Director’s Award for Superior Performance and awards from The American Lawyer, The National Law Journal, Law360, and Benchmark Litigation.  Mr. Kirsch is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. 

 

Mr. Kirsch received a B.A. in Economics and Political Science in 1996 from Indiana University and a J.D. in 1999 from Harvard Law School.
