Mission Statement

The Office of the United States Attorney, Western District of New York, prosecutes all violations of the Federal Criminal Law occurring within the seventeen (17) counties of the District. The office also represents every Federal agency in civil cases and matters.

The United States Attorney has the responsibility and authority to prosecute for all offenses against the United States, which the United States is a party, appear on behalf of defendants in all civil actions or suites or proceedings pending in the District against collectors or other Officers of the Revenue or Customs for any act done by them or for the recovery of any money exacted by or paid to such officers, institute and prosecute proceedings for the collection or fines, penalties and forfeitures incurred for violation of any Revenue Law.

United States Attorney’s by virtue of their authority conduct virtually all the trial work in which the United States is a party. The United States Attorney is the principal Federal Law Enforcement Officer in the District.
