ABSTRACT: This system of records permits the USAOs to compile, maintain and track information pertaining to defendants prior to trial.

PURPOSE: This system was established and is maintained as a tool for pursuing a criminal matter through the pretrial stages. It permits efficiency in the day to day prosecutorial proceedings.

ACCESS CONSTRAINTS: The information contained in the records system is both confidential and nonconfidential and is located in file cabinets in the USAOs. The file cabinets are maintained in offices locked during nonworking hours and are secured by the Federal Protective Service, United States Postal Service or private building guards.

AGENCY PROGRAM: The USAOs are charged with the enforcement of United States law both civil and criminal in conjunction with the Department of Justice. Compilation, maintenance and tracking of criminal case files through the pretrial stages serves as a valuable organizational tool in pursuing the law enforcement goals of the United States government.

SOURCES OF DATA: The information contained in this system includes investigative reports of federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, witness information, grand jury transcripts, court transcripts, memoranda and reports from the court, and attorney work product of AUSAs assigned to the cases.
