U.S. Attorney David Barlow

David B. Barlow serves as the 35th United States Attorney for the District of Utah, having been nominated by President Barack Obama and confirmed unanimously by the United States Senate in August and September 2011, respectively. 

Mr. Barlow was appointed by Attorney General Eric Holder to serve on the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee, which advises the Attorney General on policy, management, and operational issues at the Department of Justice.  He also chairs the Local Government Coordination Working Group and serves on the White Collar Crime Subcommittee. the Native American Issues Subcommittee, and the Health Care Fraud Working Group.

Mr. Barlow earned his B.A. in Political Science from BYU, where he graduated first in his class and received the All-USA Award from USA Today.  He then attended Yale Law School as a Truman Scholar.  At Yale Law, Mr. Barlow served as the Submissions Editor for the Yale Law and Policy Review and completed two year-long externships at the United States Attorney’s Office and the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut.

In private practice after law school, Mr. Barlow became a partner at Sidley Austin LLP in Chicago.  He served as national, regional, and case-specific counsel in cases scattered throughout the United States.  Mr. Barlow’s cases ranged from two-party, single jurisdiction cases to billion dollar litigation with cases in many state and federal courts throughout the United States.  He played roles as varied as sole counsel to one of a few national counsel leading a multi-firm team of hundreds of attorneys.  For several months in 2011, Mr. Barlow served in the United States Senate as General Counsel and Chief Counsel, Judiciary for Senator Mike Lee. 

Prior to entering public service, Mr. Barlow was honored nationally by clients for his legal work and was awarded the Pro Bono Advocates' Lawyer of the Year Award for work done on behalf of victims of domestic violence.
