Former United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Washington

     William D. Hyslop was nominated by President Donald Trump in May, 2019, and confirmed by the United States Senate on June 27, 2019. He was sworn in and began his service as United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Washington on July 19, 2019.

     Mr. Hyslop previously served as the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Washington from 1991 to 1993, having been appointed by President George H.W. Bush and having been confirmed by the United States Senate.

     Bill Hyslop was born and raised in Spokane, attending Shadle Park High School. He graduated from Washington State University in 1973, received a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Washington in 1977, and earned his J.D. Law Degree from the Gonzaga University School of Law in 1980. Following law school, he joined the Lukins & Annis, P.S. law firm in 1980, and became a Principal in the firm in 1984. He rejoined Lukins & Annis, P.S. in 1993 after his service as United States Attorney, and had been serving as Principal in the firm in its Litigation Department.

     He is admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Washington, for the Western District of Washington, and for the District of Idaho; in the Ninth Circuit for the U.S. Court of Appeals; and before the U.S. Supreme Court.  He is also admitted to practice in the State Courts in Washington and Idaho.  In addition, he has been active in a number of professional leadership roles including as President of the Washington State Bar Association, President of the Federal Bar Association of the Eastern District of Washington, and President of the Spokane County Bar Association.  In 2008, he received the Smithmoore P. Myers Professionalism Award from the Spokane County Bar Association, and in 2006, he received the President’s Award from the Washington State Bar Association in recognition of service to the legal profession and his community.

     His civic activities include service as the Vice Chair of the City of Spokane Use of Force Commission, chair of numerous civic and school capital improvement campaigns, President of the Washington State University Alumni Association, Assistant Scoutmaster and Trooper Committee Chair in the Boy Scouts of America, Board Member at the Morning Star Boys’ Ranch and Chair of its Foundation, and Member of the Rotary Club of Spokane.

     Bill Hyslop and his wife, Deborah, are the parents of two children and have three grandchildren.
