Appellate Division

Chief Andrew Goetz

Goetz Appellate chief

The Appellate Division handles appeals from the office’s most sensitive or challenging criminal and civil matters. While Assistant U.S. Attorneys from the Criminal and Civil Divisions typically handle cases from inception through appeal, the Appellate Division reviews all briefs for legal analysis, form and consistency. The Appellate Division also serves as general counsel to the office, providing legal advice on issues arising from investigation through trial, and making decisions about whether to take an appeal in each case.
