EXPERIENCE:
Susan Creighton is a partner in the firm's antitrust and trade regulation practice, where she focuses on antitrust counseling and litigation. She is a member of the firm's Executive Management Committee.

Susan rejoins the firm from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). She started at the FTC in August 2001 as deputy director of the Bureau of Competition, and was named director of the bureau in July 2003. During her tenure, she supervised the bureau's non-merger and merger enforcement divisions, and oversaw the investigation and litigation of many of the FTC's most important recent matters. In the merger area, Susan helped lead the FTC in gaining favorable decisions and relief for consumers in cases such as Libbey/Newell Rubbermaid, Inc.; Blockbuster Inc.; Chevron/Unocal; Aspen Technology/Hyprotech; Procter & Gamble/Gillette; and Johnson & Johnson/Guidant. She also directed efforts in challenging consummated mergers, including the FTC's litigation in Chicago Bridge & Iron Company N.V. and Evanston Northwestern Healthcare/Highland Park Hospital.

In the non-merger arena, Susan played a critical role in obtaining consent orders in pharmaceutical matters such as those involving Bristol-Myers Squibb, Perrigo and Biovail; in the administrative litigation and subsequent appeals of Schering-Plough Corp. and Polygram; in Unocal's litigation and subsequent settlement; and in cases such as South Carolina State Board of Dentistry and Warner Chilcott. Susan also played a key role in developing antitrust policy during her tenure, and made important contributions to discussions about the intersection of antitrust and intellectual property and on numerous amicus opportunities including Independent Ink, Volvo, and Dagher.

Prior to joining the FTC, Susan was a partner at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati. Her work included representing Netscape Communications in connection with antitrust issues raised by its dealings with Microsoft, and successfully defending VISX at trial against antitrust charges brought by the FTC based on claims of patent misuse. In addition, Susan represented Autodesk, Borland, Netscape, VIA, VISX, and many other companies in connection with antitrust litigation and counseling matters.

Before initially joining Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati in 1987, Susan served as a law clerk for Judge Pamela Ann Rymer on the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, and for Justice Sandra Day O'Connor on the U.S. Supreme Court.
