Forensics: ICITAP Partners with Iberoamerican Academy of Criminalistics and Forensic Studies to Present Webinar on Synthetic Drugs

On October 25, ICITAP partnered with the Iberoamerican Academy of Criminalistics and Forensic Studies (AICEF) to present a webinar on the synthetic drug epidemic with a focus on forensic chemical analysis delivered in Spanish. ICITAP hosted content delivered from the Attorney General’s Office of Mexico and the Civil Guard Criminalistics Service of Spain. The Mexico presentation addressed its contribution to counter the synthetic drug crisis, from identifying and regulating precursors to chemical profiling of seized drugs and monitoring production and manufacturing trends. The Spanish presenter discussed the phased approach to analysis used in Spain, and presented two case studies in which advanced analysis was required to correctly confirm the drug encountered. The webinar had 206 attendees from ten countries across Latin America as well as Portugal, Spain and the United Nations.
