Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Appeals & Accountability

Peter L. Cooch

Peter L. Cooch is the Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Appeals & Accountability in the National Fraud Enforcement Division, where he oversees the Appellate, Corporate Enforcement, Asset Recovery, and Special Matters Sections. Peter joined the Fraud Division in April 2026. 

Prior to joining the Fraud Division, Peter was a federal prosecutor in the Criminal Division of the Department of Justice. Most recently, Peter served as Senior Counsel in the Office of the Assistant Attorney General, assisting leadership with managing the Criminal Division’s fraud, money laundering, and appellate portfolios and developing the Division’s white-collar enforcement policies. As a Trial Attorney, Peter investigated and prosecuted bribery, fraud, and money laundering offenses in the FCPA Unit of the Criminal Division’s White Collar and Corporate Enforcement Section. Peter also previously served as a Special Assistant United States Attorney in the District of Maryland, prosecuting a range of gun, drug, and white-collar offenses. 

Before joining the Department, Peter was an associate in the white-collar defense group of an international law firm in Washington, D.C. Peter graduated cum laude from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law and received an undergraduate degree in finance from the University of Maryland Robert H. Smith School of Business.
