Orlando B. Sonza

Orlando B. Sonza is Chief of Staff for the National Fraud Enforcement Division, where he serves as senior advisor to the Assistant Attorney General and helps direct the Division’s strategic priorities, internal governance, and nationwide coordination of the fraud enforcement mission with federal, state, and local partners. Orlando joined the Fraud Division in May 2026. 

Prior to joining the Fraud Division, Orlando served as Counsel to the Assistant Attorney General in the Civil Rights Division, where Orlando helped lead some of the Division’s most landmark criminal investigations and prosecutions. In recognition of this work, Orlando received an Attorney General’s Award, one of the Department’s highest honors. 

Before joining the Department, Orlando served as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he prosecuted a broad range of criminal cases, including financial crimes and violent offenses. Following his work as a state prosecutor, Orlando served as the Executive Director of the Veterans Service Commission of Hamilton County, Ohio. Orlando is an honors graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in political science. After graduating from West Point, Orlando served on active duty as a U.S. Army Infantry Officer with the 3rd Infantry Division. Orlando is also a Certified Public Accountant and holds both a master’s degree in taxation from the University of Cincinnati and a law degree from Georgetown University Law Center.
