Nicholas J. Schilling Jr.
Nicholas J. Schilling Jr. is the Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Tax & Trade in the National Fraud Enforcement Division, where he oversees the Tax Section and the Global Trade & Commerce Enforcement Section. Nicholas joined the Fraud Division in July 2026.
Nicholas has served the Department of Justice in several capacities, including as Senior Counsel to the Deputy Attorney General, Supervisory Official and Chief of Staff for the Office of Legal Policy, Criminal Trial Attorney in the former Tax Division, and Special Assistant United States Attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia. He received the Attorney General’s Award for Distinguished Service, the second highest award granted by the Attorney General, for his work investigating and prosecuting an abusive tax promotion scheme.
Before joining the Department through the Attorney General’s Honors Program, Nicholas clerked for Judge David J. Porter of the Third Circuit Court of Appeals and Judge Stephen J. Murphy III of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. He graduated from Notre Dame Law School and the University of Notre Dame.
