Jonathan R. Hornok
Jonathan R. Hornok is the Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General for the National Fraud Enforcement Division, assisting in formulating and executing Division-wide policies and priorities and in supervising the Division. The Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General is authorized to exercise all the authority of the Assistant Attorney General, except where such authority is prohibited by law from delegation. Jonathan joined the Fraud Division in April 2026.
Jonathan has held various positions during his decade in the Department, including Criminal Chief at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, Trial Attorney in the Criminal Division’s Narcotic and Dangerous Drug Section, Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Texas in his hometown of Texarkana, and Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Arizona in Phoenix. He has supervised, investigated, and prosecuted a broad range of federal matters, including fraud, tax, public corruption, international terrorism, sanctions evasion, asset seizure and forfeiture, espionage, cybercrime, child exploitation, violent crime, and international narcotrafficking. In September 2023, Jonathan secured the trial conviction of Ruben Oseguera Gonzalez a.k.a. Menchito, who was the violent second in command of the Cartel de Jalisco Nueva Generacion and who trafficked almost $12.6 billion worth of drugs.
Before joining the Department through the Attorney General’s Honors Program, Jonathan clerked for the Honorable Lavenski R. Smith of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit and for the Honorable Jill N. Parrish of the Utah Supreme Court. Jonathan began his career as a software engineer, developing tax and criminal justice software. Jonathan holds a B.S. in Computer Science, with a minor in Accounting, from John Brown University and a J.D., with Highest Honors, from the University of Utah, S.J. Quinney College of Law.
