Kenya: ICITAP Visits Kenya’s New National Police Leadership Academy Facilities

On August 9, upon invitation from Kenya’s Police Service (KPS) Deputy Inspector General, an ICITAP Engaging Multinational Police Women on Equality and Rights (EMPoWER) Program Officer visited the new facilities for the National Police Leadership Academy (NPLA), an institution created via presidential order and designed to provide uniformed officers access to quality education on matters related to leadership and strategic management. In company of the Senior Assistant to the Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service, the ICITAP Program Officer received a briefing on the academy’s capabilities and opportunities to support EMPoWER programming in the country. This visit constituted EMPoWER’s first official engagement with KPS, creating ties to provide capacity strengthening support to females in the service in line with the Women in Security Project. This visit was organized with the support of and in coordination with the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Counterterrorism.
