Deputy Attorney General: Ralph E. Erickson

Ralph E. Erickson was the 11th Deputy Attorney General of the United States. He served as the Department’s second-ranking official from June 1972 to February 1973.

President Richard M. Nixon nominated Mr. Erickson for the post of Deputy Attorney General in June 1972. At the time of his nomination, he was Assistant Attorney General in charge of the Office of Legal Counsel. Mr. Erickson previously served as Deputy Assistant Attorney General in that office (October 1971 to January 1972).

From 1955 to 1971, Mr. Erickson engaged primarily in the private practice of law in Los Angeles, California.

A native of Jamestown, New York, Mr. Erickson graduated from Cornell University (B.S., 1952) and Harvard University (LL.B., 1955).
