Héctor E. Ramírez-Carbó

Héctor E. Ramírez-Carbó became the Acting United States Attorney for the District of Puerto Rico on July 7, 2026, pursuant to the Federal Vacancies Reform Act.

Mr. Ramírez-Carbó began his career in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Puerto Rico in 2009, serving as a Civil Assistant U.S. Attorney (AUSA). In 2010, he transferred to the Criminal Division’s White Collar Crimes Unit, where he investigated and prosecuted healthcare fraud, bank fraud, identity theft, and other white‑collar offenses. He also prosecuted firearms and drug‑trafficking cases. His responsibilities included coordinating multi‑agency investigations and serving as the District’s healthcare fraud, identity theft, and interstate child support coordinator.

In January 2014, Mr. Ramírez-Carbó was appointed Chief of the Civil Division for the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Puerto Rico. As Chief of the Civil Division, he oversaw a broad range of civil matters, including defensive tort litigation, employment discrimination, affirmative civil enforcement, and healthcare fraud.

In May 2020, Mr. Ramírez-Carbó was appointed First Assistant United States Attorney (FAUSA) for the District of Puerto Rico, a position he held until becoming the Acting United States Attorney.

Mr. Ramírez-Carbó earned his Juris Doctor degree, magna cum laude, from the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico School of Law in 1997. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, cum laude, from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus in 1994.

He has been recognized with the 2019 Director’s Award by the Executive Office for United States Attorneys and the 2018 Inspector General’s Award for Excellence in Fighting Fraud, Waste, and Abuse.
