“Putting a price on the life of a law enforcement officer is an attack on the rule of law,” said U.S. Attorney Andrew S. Boutros.

The defendants allegedly struck a vehicle driven by an agent of U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

LUIS CHAVEZ, who has multiple criminal convictions, illegally re-entered the U.S. after being deported in 2015.

The agents were involved in immigration enforcement operations when the incidents occurred.

ANGEL BARRERA-ESTEVES illegally obtained firearms from his mother, who was also convicted in the case.

Two of the defendants are also charged with fraudulently obtaining Covid-relief loans.

The defendants allegedly assaulted or forcibly resisted federal agents outside an ICE facility in Broadview, Ill. 

WALTER BRZOWSKI, 67, of Chicago, is charged with eleven counts of forgery.

KEVIN RODRIGUEZ allegedly used his status as an officer to purchase a rifle and handgun for an acquaintance.

WESLEY SMITH, a previously convicted felon, illegally possessed the loaded gun in Rockford.

RICHARD THOMPSON displayed a handgun and stole the carrier’s Arrow Key.
