Attorney General: Jefferson B. Sessions, III

Jefferson Beauregard Sessions, III, was born on December 24, 1946, in Selma, Alabama. He received his bachelor’s degree in history from Huntingdon College in 1969 and his law degree from the University of Alabama in 1973 before being admitted to the bar that same year. He was in private practice until 1975 when he became an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama. Sessions served in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1975 to 1985, attaining the rank of captain. He joined the Mobile-based law firm of Stockman & Bedsole in 1977, where he remained until appointed by President Ronald Reagan as the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama in 1981. He continued in that post until rejoining Stockman & Bedsole in 1993. In 1995, Sessions became the attorney general of Alabama and was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1996. 

Sessions served as U.S. Senator from Alabama until becoming the 84th Attorney General of the United States on February 9, 2017, appointed to the position by President Donald J. Trump. Sessions continued in that office until resigning on November 7, 2018.
