Chetan Patil

Chetan A. Patil has served as the Acting Deputy Assistant Attorney General for the Torts Branch from February 2024 to October 2024.  Chetan joined the Federal Programs Branch in 2017 and has served most recently as a Senior Trial Counsel in the Branch.  He previously served as a Counsel to the Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General of the Civil Division.  Chetan is a recipient of the Attorney General’s John Marshall Award for Providing Legal Advice. 

Before joining the Department, Chetan worked in private practice.  Chetan is a graduate of Georgetown University and the University of Pennsylvania Law School.  He served as a law clerk to the Honorable Anthony J. Scirica on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
