Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Official Biography

Karl Remón Thompson was appointed Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General on March 24, 2014.

Mr. Thompson served as Counselor to the Attorney General from February, 2013 until his appointment.  Before that, he served for nearly four years in the Office of Legal Counsel, first as Counsel to the Assistant Attorney General and later as Deputy Assistant Attorney General.  Earlier in his career he worked at the Washington, D.C. office of O’Melveny & Myers, LLP, where he focused his practice on international and appellate litigation.  He clerked for Judge David S. Tatel of the United States Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, and Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg of the Supreme Court of the United States.

Mr. Thompson received his bachelor’s degree from Harvard University in 1991, a Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge in 1998, and his J.D., with high honors, from the University of Chicago Law School in 2000.
