United States v. Lauren Stevens, Case No. 10CR694-RWT (D. Maryland)
Most recent update 4/15/11 (See end of document)
On November 8, 2010, Lauren Stevens was indicted on two counts of obstruction and four counts of making false statements to the Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”). Stevens was an attorney for a major pharmaceutical company at the time of the crime alleged. In 2002, the FDA asked Stevens’ employer for information about the company’s promotion of a prescription drug, as part of an inquiry into whether the company was promoting the drug for unapproved uses. The indictment alleges that although Stevens gathered information that some of the company’s top promotional speakers were promoting the drug for off-label uses, she denied in a series of letters to the FDA that the company was promoting the drug off-label and she failed to provide the FDA with off-label slides used by these company-paid speakers.
