U.S. v. Stanley Stevens, Robert “Bob” Ristick, Ricky Ristick, and Miller Stevens

5/12/11 Update: On March 24, 2011, a federal grand jury in Seattle, Washington, returned a 23-count indictment against Stanley Stevens, Robert “Bob” Ristick, Ricky Ristick, and Miller Stevens alleging conspiracy, odometer tampering, the making of false odometer statements, and securities fraud in connection with fraudulent motor vehicle titles.  All of the charges relate to an alleged odometer tampering scheme.  The case will be heard by U.S. District Court Judge Ronald B. Leighton in Tacoma, Washington.

Charges in an indictment are only allegations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

On May 10, 2011, the Court granted a motion by the defendants to continue trial in the case, which had initially been set for May 23, 2011.  The trial is now scheduled to begin October 31, 2011, at the federal courthouse in Tacoma.

10/4/11 Update: On September 29, 2011, all four defendants pled guilty before a federal magistrate judge in Tacoma, Washington. The judge scheduled sentencing hearings for January 27, 2012, beginning at 9:30 a.m. in “B” Courtroom before U.S. District Judge Ronald B. Leighton. 1/23/12 Update: On January 23, 2012, the Court rescheduled the sentencing hearings for defendants Ricky Ristick and Robert “Bob” Ristick.  Those hearings will now be held on March 2, 2012, at 9:30 am and 10 am, respectively.  The sentencing hearings for Stanley Stevens and Miller Stevens continue to be scheduled for January 27, 2012.  The location for all four hearings remains the same.  

1/24/12 Update: On January 24, 2012, the Court rescheduled the sentencing hearings for defendants Stanley Stevens and Miller Stevens.  Those hearings will now be held on March 2, 2012, at 10:30 am and 11 am, respectively.  As noted above, Ricky Ristick and Robert “Bob” Ristick are scheduled to be sentenced at 9:30 am and 10 am that same day.  The location for all four hearings remains the same.

3/2/12 Update: On March 2, 2012, the Court sentenced all four defendants for their roles in the odometer rollback scheme to which they had previously pled guilty.  Stanley Stevens, Miller Stevens, and Robert Ristick all were sentenced to 24 months’ imprisonment and 3 years of supervised release.  Ricky Ristick was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment and 3 years of supervised release. The Court ordered the defendants to pay a total of $132,526 in restitution.  For more information, see the press release dated March 2, 2012.
