The Civil Division routinely handles major civil cases involving very large document collections. Effective litigation of these cases requires that the Civil Division be able to obtain, organize and catalog, and ultimately retrieve documents from these collections for use at trial. To assist its lawyers manage these document collections, the Division has executed contracts with several firms to perform this work. Under appropriate circumstances, other Federal agencies, both within and outside of the Department of Justice, may be able to use these contractors on a reimbursable basis to assist in their handling of major document collections needed for litigation.
