Jonathan Guynn
Jonathan D. Guynn serves as the Deputy Assistant Attorney General for the Torts Branch of the Civil Division, where he leads four litigation sections – the Aviation, Space, and Admiralty section; the Constitutional and Special Torts section; the Environmental Torts section; and the Federal Tort Claims Act section. The Torts Branch specializes in complex, high stakes litigation on behalf of the United States––including its federal agencies, officers, employees, and agents––in suits alleging tortious acts or submitting claims under diverse compensation programs.
Prior to joining the Department, Jonathan was a partner at Jones Day in Dallas, Texas, where he represented clients throughout the United States in commercial litigation, securities litigation, trade secrets litigation, white-collar defense, and regulatory matters in a range of industries, including aerospace, energy, healthcare, ESG, cryptocurrencies, mining, real estate, transportation, and financial services. Jonathan also represented many clients in pro bono matters, including especially claimants seeking to vindicate their First Amendment rights.
Jonathan is a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law and Brigham Young University. He served as a law clerk to the Honorable Kent A. Jordan on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and the Honorable David G. Campbell on the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona.
