Redwood National Park
The Land Acquisition Section secured sites for the expansion of Redwood National Park. Congress established the Park in 1968, preserving 58,000 acres of redwood trees. A major Congressionally-authorized expansion took place 10 years later, protecting an additional 48,000 acres. The Park protects 45% of California’s remaining Coastal Redwood old-growth forests which include some of the tallest and oldest trees on Earth.
Did you know? The earliest record of coastal redwoods in the North Coast region of California dates back 20 million years.
