Abuse in Later Life Program

The Training and Services to End Abuse in Later Life Program (Abuse in Later Life Program) supports a comprehensive approach to addressing abuse in later life. The term “abuse in later life” means:

  • Neglect, abandonment, economic abuse, willful harm of an adult aged 50 or older by an individual in an ongoing relationship of trust with the victim;
  • Domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, or stalking of an adult aged 50 or older by any individual. (See 34 U.S.C. § 12291(a)(1)

Funded activities must include:

  • Providing training programs to justice system professionals and service providers to recognize and address instances of abuse in later life,
  • Establishing or supporting multidisciplinary collaborative community responses to victims of abuse in later life,
  • Conducting cross-training for professionals to better serve older survivors,
  • Providing or enhancing services for victims of abuse in later life.

Eligible applicants

Eligible applicants include states, units of local government, Indian Tribal governments, Tribal organizations, population-specific organizations, victim service providers, and state, Tribal, or territorial domestic violence or sexual assault coalitions. To be eligible, applicants also must demonstrate that they are part of a multidisciplinary partnership.
