Our Combating Redlining Initiative, launched in 2021, has made transformative progress in advancing economic opportunities for communities of color in Birmingham, Alabama; Columbus, Ohio; Houston; Jacksonville, Florida; Los Angeles, California; Memphis, Tennessee; Newark, New Jersey; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Winston-Salem, North Carolina; Tulsa, Oklahoma; throughout Rhode Island; and elsewhere. Redlining is the unlawful practice of denying residents in communities of color equal access to credit because of race, color, or national origin.

In 2024, the United States Trustee Program appointed 35 private trustees to serve in cases under chapters 7, 12, and 13 in regions throughout the country.

The U.S. Trustee Program has revamped its Section 341 Meeting of Creditors webpage and released a series of videos to help consumer debtors and their attorneys navigate the section 341 meeting of creditors, a required step in every bankruptcy case.

The Justice Department has renamed the Indian Resources Section of the Environment and Natural Resources Division to the Tribal Resources Section. The new name better reflects the nature of the section’s work because it typically works with representatives of tribal governments rather than individual members of tribes.

On January 6, ICITAP observed its 39-year anniversary. Since January 6, 1986, ICITAP has strengthened our national security by advancing U.S. law enforcement operations abroad through training, mentoring, and technical assistance in 117 countries worldwide (see ICITAP map for current presence).

November’s cases include violations of the Toxic Substances Control Act; the Clean Air Act; and the Clean Water Act; dog fighting; eel and pesticide smuggling;  tampering with a monitoring device; lead paint disclosures; seafood mislabeling,  and more.

On December 17, ICITAP’s Global Forensic Science Unit provided an update on the impact of its assistance to Costa Rica’s Judicial Investigations Organization (OIJ) Department of Forensic Sciences (DFS). 

Former Assistant Attorney General J. Stanley Pottinger of the Civil Rights Division died on Nov. 27th in Princeton, New Jersey. He was 84 years old.

From December 9 to December 11, six members of the North Macedonian Passenger Information Unit (PIU) were invited to the National Targeting Center at the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), where they were able to work collaboratively to further the use of automated targeting systems.
