
David C. Waterman
U.S. Attorney David C. Waterman was born and raised in Davenport, Iowa. He earned his J.D. from UCLA School of Law in 2013. Before law school, he received a Master of Philosophy in Political Thought and Intellectual History from the University of Cambridge in 2010. He earned his B.A. in Political Science, summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, from The George Washington University Honors Program in 2009, where he studied abroad for the 2007 to 2008 academic year at the University of Oxford.
Before Mr. Waterman’s appointment as U.S. Attorney, he served more than four years at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida from 2016 to 2020, where he worked in both the Appellate and Criminal Divisions. Beginning in 2020, he worked in private practice, focusing on civil litigation, white-collar criminal defense, government regulatory and compliance matters, and appellate advocacy. Mr. Waterman is a fifth-generation lawyer practicing in Iowa.
Mr. Waterman’s legal career began with three federal clerkships, including for the Honorable John A. Jarvey of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Iowa, the Honorable Mark W. Bennett of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Iowa, and the Honorable Michael J. Melloy of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. Outside the courtroom, Mr. Waterman is an avid endurance athlete, having completed five full Ironman triathlons.
