Dear Mr. Secretary:
This refers to the request that the Attorney General reconsider and withdraw the September 29, 1998, objection interposed under Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act, 42 U.S.C. 1973c, to the change in the procedures for filling certain judicial vacancies for the State of Texas. We received your request on October 6, 1998.
We have reconsidered our earlier determination in this matter based on the additional information and arguments you have advanced in support of your request, along with the other information in our files. Based upon our review, the objection interposed to the above change is hereby withdrawn, pursuant to Section 51.49(b) of the Procedures for the Administration of Section 5 (28 C.F.R.).
