Submitting Electronic Fingerprints for Federal Firearm Rights Restoration

Electronic Fingerprints

Electronic fingerprints from the United States Postal Service (USPS) are required for individuals when applying for Federal Firearm Rights Restoration (FFRR).

NOTE: Fingerprints collected from anywhere other than the USPS electronic process will NOT be accepted.

After you submit your application, you will receive an email from Criminal Justice Information Services telling you about the next steps in the application process.  It will also include your case number and a QR code, which you will need in order to submit your fingerprints.

You will also receive an email from the United States Postal Service confirming that you have signed up for fingerprinting services.  Please read the email in its entirety.  Not every USPS location performs fingerprinting services, however, the "location search" link will help you find the Postal Service fingerprinting location closest to you.

Remember to bring the above-mentioned email from the Criminal Justice Information Services, a form of payment, and accepted forms of identification with you to the Post Office for your fingerprinting appointment.

The accepted forms of identification include:

  • A State Issued Driver's License
  • A State Issued Non-Driver's ID
  • A United States Passport or Passport Card
  • A Military ID (Uniformed Services Identification Card)

If you have questions about what forms of identification or payment are accepted, please contact your the Post Office directly.

NOTE: Once taken, your fingerprints will be sent directly to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) where they will be processed and then uploaded into your FFRR application. You will receive notification when the FBI receives your fingerprints.
