Mary Rodriguez is the United States’ 2024 candidate for the INTERPOL Executive Committee as Vice President of the Americas Region. 

For over two decades, she has been on the front lines of international law enforcement cooperation, shaping the future of global security. As a Senior Executive at the U.S. Department of Justice and a former Executive Director of Legal Affairs at INTERPOL, she has forged partnerships that transcend borders—strengthening cooperation, promoting the rule of law and respecting human rights, while making sure police can be agile and effective in responding to criminal threats.

Mary is an accomplished leader who builds trust through collaboration, teamwork, and mutual respect.  Mary has over two decades of public service dedicated to international law enforcement cooperation

  • In 1991, Mary joined the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Civil Rights Division to protect the rights of disadvantaged communities.
  • In 1994, Mary pivoted her career to criminal prosecution, serving as a U.S. federal prosecutor in the nation’s capital.
  • In 2000, building on her law enforcement experience, Mary specialized in the complex and dynamic field of international fugitive investigations, extraditions and mutual legal assistance in the Criminal Division’s Office of International Affairs (OIA).
    • At OIA, Mary led regional teams in Latin America and Europe developing and bolstering cooperation to ensure dangerous fugitives were brought to justice.
    • Mary negotiated extradition and mutual legal assistance treaties with partners in Latin America, Middle East, and Europe.
  • From 2016 to 2024, Mary was seconded to INTERPOL in Lyon, France, and served as the Executive Director of Legal Affairs, advising the General Assembly, Executive Committee, and the Secretary General.
  • Mary currently serves as a senior executive advisor to the U.S. National Central Bureau (USNCB), or INTERPOL Washington.
  • At OIA, as Deputy Director, she leads teams of law enforcement officials dedicated to responding to requests for assistance from law enforcement authorities around the world.
  • Mary is fluent in English and Spanish and has working French language capabilities.

Mary has deep knowledge of INTERPOL and its inner mechanisms. Her experience is essential in an increasingly globalized world. If elected, Mary plans to enhance Member countries’ access to I-24/7, improve communication, promote transparency and accountability of INTERPOL bodies such as the Commission for the Control of INTERPOL’s Files (CCF) and the General Secretariat.

As INTERPOL’s Executive Director of Legal Affairs and General Counsel, Mary

  • Defended, protected, and improved INTERPOL’s Red Notice system.
  • Advised INTERPOL’s General Assembly, Executive Committee, Secretary General, executive leadership and Member Countries.
  • Developed a deep understanding of INTERPOL’s mission and operations, governance, legal framework, and data processing rules.

At the United States Department of Justice, Mary

  • Led groundbreaking developments in international fugitive investigations and extraditions, ensuring collaboration to achieve justice.
  • Investigated and prosecuted dangerous criminals.
  • Worked closely with U.S. and foreign law enforcement partners to share information and evidence. 

In partnership with INTERPOL Washington, Mary will work with Member Countries to expand INTERPOL’s I-24/7 network.

  • Mary will stay true to INTERPOL’s core values of independence, neutrality, and sharing critical information to prevent and detect serious transnational crimes.
  • Ensure integrity and trust through transparency and accountability.
    • Respect for INTERPOL’s independence and neutrality by adhering to the rule of law and acknowledging Member Countries’ sovereignty.
    • Using new technologies that law enforcement can rely upon as trusted means of communication for development of leads and investigations.
    • Improve information-sharing to speed up police investigations across borders to stay ahead of the criminals and organized criminal groups.
