ABSTRACT: The Historical and Record Management System of Appointed Federal Judges encompasses a centralized record of all Article III appointed Federal judges' appointment folders, as well as some Article I Federal judges' appointment folders. This system consists of alphabetical folders for each active judicial appointee and an alphabetical index to the files.
PURPOSE: To assist the agency in the recommendation and appointment of federal judges, as well as maintain an historical record of appointments.
ACCESS CONSTRAINTS: All records are protected from unauthorized access through appropriate administrative, physical, and technical safeguards. These restrictions include limiting access to those who have a "need-to-know" area of responsibility to perform their official duties, and using locks to limit physical access.
USE CONSTRAINTS: Users are restricted to only those who need access to perform assigned tasks with respect to federal judicial appointments.
AGENCY PROGRAM: The Department of Justice is the principal agency to assist in making recommendations to the President of the United States with respect to federal judicial appointments as well as in assisting the nominees in the confirmation process before the United States Senate.
SOURCES OF DATA: Data contained is the result of FBI investigations and data provided by the individual while under consideration for a federal judicial appointment by the President, as well as correspondence from entities outside the Department of Justice.
